Pant Tinkler

The pant tinkler is a funny element of the Northern Swedish forests. It may be hard to spot, as it hides among screes, but the hoarse singing is easily recognized: skvaaaa-skveat-skveat-skveat. The pant tinkler lays eggs about the size of elk turd. The light red eggs gives females, the other males.

The bird draws to South Africa during june-july, where it lives on chops louse. While staying here, the bird eats up to 8 times its own weight before it redraws to northern territories.

Because of the short wings, the bird can only fly a few kilometres at the time, and this makes it a very fatiguing journey. Especially on the way southwards, many specimen succumbs to exhaustion.

The pant tinkler on the picture has been surprised by a bunch of cows, and amazingly, out photographer was there at the right moment!
