Thursday 24. September

Inger Johanne's parents took us to Gardermoen. It was plenty of glass and steel there. We found the counter and checked in. They were concerned that Inger Johanne's suitcase would be too large for the baggage handling system, but they took the chance. It was heavy too, about 26 kg.

The plane was more or less on schedule, we took off at 06:30. It was a DC-10 from Premiair, carrying almost 380 passengers. Not exactly the newest, fanciest aircraft I have seen, but fair enough. We had window seats with a nice view at row 14. We were served breakfast on board, hot omelette with rolls, cheese and strawberry jam. Juice and water were sold at NOK 20,-. We slept quite a bit on the plane, as we had stayed up all night packing.

A newly married couple waiting
for the bus to leave. We got our baggage rather quickly at Heraklion airport. Inger Johanne forgot her small, brown purse on the plane, but someone found it and brough it, so we didn't loose it. We stayed in the bus for half an hour before we left. The driver stopped the engine after 20 minutes, and the air conditioning as well. But after all, it's more environment friendly. Inger Johanne changed her top in the bus without anyone taking notice. Now we're looking forward to finding a shop were we can buy peach juice and some food. And of course, it'll be good to be well installed at the hotel.

It was a half-hour trip to the hotel, and we had to return to the airport after a few minutes to let off someone who had got on the wrong bus, so we were a bit delayed.

The hotel, Alex Apartments, was the nice, home-like kind, with a load-mouthed owner, Alex. He had a low-voiced wife and a load-mouthed sun. We had Raki served when we arrived, a local Cretan liqour they make from the left-overs after wine production. It tasted awful, but then again, one can't be unpolite either. Luckily, it was just a small glass.

As soon as we were ready, Alex served salad and rolls, but to his surprise, we preferred water instead of wine. We also agreed to have mixed grill for dinner.

After lunch, we went down to the supermarket to buy some water, mineral water, snacks, chocolate, post cards, stamps and Bailey's. Then we slept for a while. We were woken up by Alex banging on the door, telling us that dinner was ready. It was a bit cold when we came down, obviously we were a bit late.

We went to sleep around midnight and set the alarm at 9 to avoid oversleeping the welcome meeting at 10 the next day.
