(don't count on this one for booking, it's not checked regularly).
If you book by fax, you should give them a ring if you haven't got a
confirmation within a day or two. I've stayed almost all the nights at the Anne
Boleyn while I've been in Staines, and here is a review of the rooms. In
case I've forgot to mention it; all the rooms have separate bathrooms
with shower and usually a bathtub, they all have TV and phone (some of
the staff even know how to transfer an incoming call), and there is a
wall-to-wall carpet in the bedroom. I believe they've torn down all the
rooms with carpet in the bathroom. These are the rooms that I've
stayed in:
101, 117, 222, 225,
305, 401, 416, 418 418
The 418 is a rather long room, with the double bed at the window towards the street, a small desk and a closet, and a bathroom with toilet and tub.
There is no mixing battery, so hot and cold water is separate. There is quiet a lot of noise from the street until midnight because of the Swan that closes at
23:00, but from midnight until about 6-7 am it's usually quiet. Prices
from £79.90.
416
This is a large room with two single beds, a small desk and a
separate bathroom with a tub. There's a wash stand just outside the
bathroom with a mixing battery, which makes shaving convenient.
There are no windows, except in the bathroom, but a skylight window may
be opened and provides enough air. The radiator may be turned on or off
using a pair of nippers, which i luckily have on my swiss army knife. The
desk is just big enough to set up my laptop, however, there's a drawer
that gets in the way for my knees. Prices from £89.90. 401
This room is without windows, and the roof hatch cannot be completely closed, so it may be a bit chilly. It's
a small, moveable desk and a stool, so it's not perfect for working with a laptop, but fair enough. Prices
from £69.90. 305
I really liked this room! My favorite so far. The room is on the
first floor, to the left of the main entrance when seen from the
outside, and you'll have to walk through nearly all the corridors to get
there. But it's worth it. It's not very large, but very cosy, with
wooden rafters painted black. There's a desk just inside the door with
plenty of space, and a low shelf along the wall. It's perfect for
working with a laptop. The double bed is probably a bit narrow for two
people, but it's great for one. Prices from £79.90. 225
This is one of the upper rooms on the second floor, and it's a rather large room. There are two windows, one on each side of the room, a stand with
a television, a lower stand for a suitcase or just anything, and a double bed with a nightstand on each side, and a wall-to-wall carpet.
The bathroom is not very big, but it's nice, and there is a mixing
battery and a bath tub with a shower.
There is very little noise from the outside during the night.
There was no convenient table for my laptop, so I moved the TV unto
the lower stand and used that space, but there was a shelf that got in the way for my knees.
222
The 222 is a large room with two separate single beds, a nice desk, a suitcase stand, a closet and a window to the street.
The main radiator may be regulated, or even turned off, by hand. The one
in the bathroom, however, seemed to be stuck, so it stayed cold.
The bathroom is rather small, however, with a shower and no tub, but I'm not going to have a bath anyway, so who cares. The space in front of the toilet
is about 10 cm (4 inches) too small, so reading a book is a bit difficult. There
is a wide desk with plenty of space to set up a laptop, so all in all, this is my favourite room so
far.
117
The 117 was in the chalet, on the ground floor towards the yard. The room was OK, but small. There
was no desk or table, but the narrow shelf beneath the window could be used as a computer stand.
There was a separate bathroom with carpeted floor, so there was a certain smell.
The whole chalet has been torn down, however, so there are no more chalet rooms.
101
The 101 is probably one of the largest rooms. It's on the ground floor,
next to the restaurant and close to the lobby, so you'll hear all the
noise. But it's OK.
Prices from 109.90.
